Extraction, Transformation and Loading
We believe that the extraction , transformation and loading (ETL) process is the "Core" of a data warehouse. A successful data warehousing project is highly depends on the rules and logics embedded in the ETL process. However, different environment may use different kinds of ETL strategy.

There are two approaches to implement the ETL process that we found are cost effective and suitable for common situations. They are Oracle Warehouse Builder and Microsoft DTS respectively. The first one offers an advance data cleansing features. It provides an easy to use, graphical environment to rapidly design, deploy, and manage business intelligence systems.

As for the Microsoft DTS, it is possible to build data warehouses and data marts in SQL Server by importing and transforming data from multiple heterogeneous sources interactively or automatically on a regularly scheduled basis. It is often use to deploy in Microsoft platform environment and require less investment cost.

Sometimes we found a successful implementation of data warehouse project was also depend on a suitable retrieval layer. No matter how well-structured of your data warehouse, it may cause failure when launching a data warehouse project if you choose a wrong retrieval layer.
